With the launch of Marvel's Spider-Manthere's a lot of love going around for superhero games. After all, that game that exudes passion for the character at every turn, taking advantage of a wealth of iconic characters and story arcs to feed into your fantasy. But there's technically another superhero game coming out this year that displays the same fervor, if not more: Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise.
The series takes place in an alternate s where society has been erased in the fires of nuclear war, and violence is the sole authority. As a globally popular IP, it has been adapted into an animated series, movies, and has spin-off works featuring supporting characters. The depth of Kenshiro and other characters pulled me right in, and I read every comic there was.
In the 21st century, a nuclear war turned most of the Earth's surface into a desert wasteland, which also resulted in the contamination of the Earth's water supply. A man named Sanga has built the fortified haven of the "Last Land", where he rules as its dictator by monopolizing the city's uncontaminated water supply. When he learns that the neighboring residents of Freedom Village are trying to dig up a well for their own, Sanga sends his underlings to sabotage their effort.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world that has been destroyed by a nuclear war, the story centers on a warrior named Kenshirothe successor of a deadly martial art known as Hokuto Shinkenwhich gives him the ability to kill most adversaries from within through the use of the human body's secret vital points, often resulting in an exceptionally violent and gory death. Kenshiro dedicates his life to fighting against the various gangs, bandits and warlords who threaten the lives of the weak and innocent, as well as rival martial artists, including his own "brothers" from the same school. Fist of the North Star was adapted into two anime television series produced by Toei Animationwhich together aired on Fuji TV and its affiliates from throughcomprising a combined total of episodes. It has since expanded into a media franchiseincluding several anime films, a live-action film, OVAsvideo gamesand a series of spin-offs centering on other characters from the original story.
Mandatory listening while reading this page. Setting aside the fact that it's manga and anime for a moment, this is the single manliest show in existence. But this show was created by an acupuncturist who wanted to make a manga about martial arts.
