Baltimore has always been an important city for me. My stepdad grew up here, and my family took regular trips here years before I started college at the Peabody Conservatory, a Johns-Hopkins-affiliated music conservatory in the city. Far from the violent cesspool depicted by crime dramas like The WireBaltimore is mostly a fun, vibrant and large city with a quirky flavor.

In the August issue of Baltimore's long-running Gay Community Center newspaper, Greg Lehne wrote about casual sex in the gay men's community in his column, "Gay Perspectives. Lehne advised looking to lesbians: "The lesbian social scene, which predominantly revolves around friendship circles and non-bar activities, can also provide gay men with a model for meeting friends. There is some truth to this stereotype of gay men as out in the bars while lesbians were organizing at home, but it misses the vibrant history of lesbian social spaces in Baltimore. That same issue of the Gay Community Center newspaper featured a map of lesbian and gay places in the city, including at least six bars—and that's not counting the floating bar on the regular gay and lesbian cruises around the harbor, the popular Ladies Tea at the Hippo—then called The Pink Hippopotamus —or the many women's nights at other predominantly gay men's establishments.

I respect your work tremendously. When a rebranding of a bar indicated it was mixed, or mixed gay and straight, I marked it as the end of a lesbian bar. Autostraddle profiled the creativity of the names of these bars; these are only the bars that disappeared in the last decade.
You can probably guess these people live in the tropical countries where the coconut tree is intertwined with life itself, from the food they eat to the beverages they drink. Household utensils, baskets, cooking oil, furniture, and cosmetics all come from the coconut tree. On the other hand, the uses of the family cow pale by comparison.
