Erosin Greek religiongod of love. In the Theogony of Hesiod fl. Eros was a god not simply of passion but also of fertility.
Eros was the Greek god of Love, in some stories he first appears as a primordial god, born from Chaos and in others he is the son of Aphrodite. In the primordial myths, according to Hesiod, Eros was born from Chaos after Gaia and Tartarus and was involved at the beginning of the creation of the cosmos, and he blessed the union of Gaia and Uranusafter which the universe was born. Homer makes no mention of Eros in his epics; however, Parmenides, a pre-Socratic philosopher, had Eros the first of all the gods to come into existence.

The myth of Psyche and Eros is probably one of the most beautiful Greek myths; it has been told and retold in several different versions and it has inspired artists all over the world. Psyche was a woman gifted with extreme beauty and grace, one of the mortal women whose love and sacrifice for her beloved God Eros earned her immortality. To modern days, the myth of Psyche symbolizes a self-search and personal growth through learning, losing, and saving the real love.
Eros, son of Aphrodite, was the personification of intense love and desire. He was depicted throwing arrows to people in order to hit their heart and make them fall in love. Some know Eros under his Roman name, Cupid.
Eros is most often represented in Greek art as a carefree and beautiful youth, crowned with flowers, especially of roses which were closely associated with the god. Here he perhaps represented a universal love. In other traditions, such as the Orphic cosmogonies, Eros is born a hermaphrodite from an egg which was put by the Titan Chronos who represents Time into the womb of Chaos.

His Roman counterpart was Cupid "desire". In some traditions, he is described as one of the primordial gods. Beekes has suggested a Pre-Greek origin.
By deTraci Regula. Eros Greek God of Love, is not as well-known as many Greek gods and goddesses. Here is a quick introduction to the son of Aphrodite, Eros.
Eros — known as Cupid to the Romans — was the Greek god of sexual attraction, a constant companion of Aphrodite. However, possibly due to the fact that Eros was constantly accompanying the goddess of love, later authors reimagined him as one of the many children of Aphrodite and Ares. In this case, there are at least three more winged love gods such as him, all of them his brothers: AnterosPothos, and Himeros.
EROS was the mischievous god of love, a minion and constant companion of the goddess Aphrodite. The poet Hesiod first represents him as a primordial deity who emerges self-born at the beginning of time to spur procreation. See the Protogenos Eros and Phanes for more information.
